A chain of connected parks that wraps the historic centre along the line of the old walls, taking in **Slottsparken**, **Kungsparken**, **Pildammsparken** and **Ribersborg** out to the beach. The whole route is about five kilometres and walks in an hour and a half without crossing a main road. Malmö is among Europe's greenest cities for its size, with a stated policy that every resident live within three hundred metres of a green space. The parks are free and always open, and they are the best of the city in summer.

Slottsparken runs around **Malmöhus** Castle and its moat, and is the oldest in the chain of connected parks that forms Malmö's green belt. It was laid out in 1900 in the free English manner: wide lawns, groups of large trees, winding paths, and a small lake with a Dutch windmill moved onto it. What distinguishes it is that the castle's old moat became part of the design, so water wraps the park. The park connects directly to **Kungsparken** and **Pildammsparken**, so you can walk between all of them without crossing a road — which is rare in a European city. It holds the **city library** at its edge, the Malmö museum in the castle, a café and playgrounds. It is used daily for running and weekend outings, and free concerts are held in it in summer. **Free and always open.**
