The City Tower is the Gothic lanes' balcony: a fourteenth-century watchmen's tower under its green Renaissance onion โ 133 steps opening at 31 metres the best-composed angles of Innsbruck: the Golden Roof directly below in its square, the old town's coloured roofscape, the Nordkette towering behind, the Alpine chain in full circle. It is among Austria's cheapest platforms and densest in reward per stair โ a half-hour visit at any walk's heart: the ascent literally between Hofburg and Roof. The winter sunset is its secret: snow on the peaks and lane lights kindling below at once.
