An open-air shopping quarter in the heart of Chengdu by the Chunxi Road shopping street, opened in April 2015. Its pedestrian lanes were built around six restored historic buildings, among them the roughly 1,600-year-old Daci Temple complex and the Huguang Guild Hall, so traditional roofs mix with modern glass fronts. The lanes are split into «slow lanes» of tea rooms, restaurants and small shops and «fast lanes» of global brands, with The Temple House hotel, a large bookshop and a cinema; the project won an international urban development award in 2015. Wandering is free at any hour, the neighbouring Daci Temple is a working Buddhist temple to be visited quietly, and Chunxi Road station on metro Lines 2 and 3 is next door.
