A park at the south-west corner of West Lake, between Nanshan Road and the Jiuyao and Nanping hills, named «Princes' Bay» after two Southern Song crown princes linked with the spot. Its ground was once a dump for silt dredged from the lake; it became a park in 1988, when ponds were dug and slopes shaped to give rolling ground, and a channel from the lake's water-supply scheme runs through it as pools, small falls, islets and bridges. It is famous for its spring tulip show and for wedding photography. Entry is free; March and early April, when the tulips and cherry trees bloom, are its finest weeks, and early morning is calmer than midday.
