A park at the south end of the Su Causeway on West Lake, named after one of the «Ten Scenes of West Lake», «Viewing Fish at Flower Pond»; «gang» in the local dialect means a stream, after a little brook running down from Huajia Hill. Its pools hold thousands of red carp, which visitors gather to feed and watch glinting in the water, and at its centre stands the Peony Pavilion, surrounded by beds of peonies; it is one of Hangzhou people's oldest places for an outing. Entry is free; spring, when the peonies bloom, is its finest season, and from here you can walk north along the Su Causeway or into Taiziwan Park next door.
