Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, the «Golden Jubilee Crown Park», is a public riverside park in the centre of the capital, beside Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque. It spreads over 12 hectares, and one of its finest sights is the mosque's golden dome above the lawns, making it the best place in the city for an evening stroll and pictures of the mosque. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah opened it on 22 October 2017, for the Golden Jubilee of his accession. It was known as the Eco-Corridor Park, part of a project to revive the Kedayan River, reduce flooding and create public spaces. Work began in January 2016 and finished eight months ahead of schedule. The project required some 500 residents to relocate. A 6-metre promenade for walkers and cyclists runs among gardens, fountains and palms. Inside you see pools, bridges, neat flowers and a big frame where people pose with the mosque behind. The Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Pedestrian Bridge links the park to the opposite bank. In the evening the mosque's dome lights up, and public celebrations with fireworks are sometimes held. It lies near the centre with 11 access points, nine by land and two by river jetty, so it is an easy walk from the market or mosque. The best time is just before sunset, when the heat eases. Respect the mosque next door, dress modestly and keep noise down at prayer times. Crowds grow greatly at national events.
