The Poços de Caldas cable car climbs 1,500 metres from the José Affonso Junqueira park in the town centre to the top of the Serra de São Domingos, at about 1,600 metres above sea level, where the whole town and the surrounding mountains spread out below. It has run since 1974 on German-made equipment and was one of the first cable cars in Brazil, set up by the brothers Joel and Juraci Junqueira Ferreira with their partner Zoca Sarti, who ran it until the end of 2003, when it passed to the city. The full ride takes about 16 minutes in one of 22 small cabins, and the Recanto Japonês garden lies on the same mountainside. Tickets are about R$78 in 2026, and the view is best on a clear day.
