**Early morning for quiet, sunset for light — and avoid what lies between.** ⚠ **The worst window** is 10 to 4, when the coaches and the cruise ships arrive together: the causeway will not take two directions, so you queue to cross a strip of concrete a few dozen metres long, and your photographs are full of people. ✅ **Best for photography**: **before 8 am** — the water is at its stillest and mirrors the whole building, nobody is on the causeway, and the light is soft from the east. ✅ **Best to look at**: **sunset** from the Kanoni terrace above, when the water and sky turn and the monastery and Pontikonisi become a dark silhouette against orange. ✅ **A technical tip**: the famous shot is **taken from above, not from the causeway** — go down after you photograph, not before.

**No — they really are close, but they are not continuous, and that is where visitors go wrong.** ✅ **The reality**: Corfu's runway ends at the water only a few hundred metres from Kanoni, and arriving aircraft cross the area **very low** — close enough to read the airline's name and hear the engines very clearly. ⚠ **But**: Corfu is **not a busy airport** by major-hub standards — **twenty or thirty minutes can pass between arrivals** outside peak hours, and in winter the traffic drops sharply. ✅ **So if this is why you are coming**: come **on a summer afternoon** when the holiday flights come in one after another, and **check an arrivals board** on your phone before standing and waiting. ⚠ And for small children and older visitors: **it is very loud** up close — it can frighten rather than delight.
