The National Aquatics Center on the Olympic Green, known as the «Water Cube» for its box shape clad in bubble-like cushions. Built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, when 25 world records fell in its pools, it was turned into the «Ice Cube» for curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Its design, by an Australian–Chinese team, was chosen in a 2003 international competition, and the bubble façade was meant to suggest water beside the round Bird's Nest stadium. Since 2010 its basement has held a large indoor water park with slides and wave pools, and at night the façade is lit in changing colours. A visit inside costs about CNY 30, swimming about 50, and the water park about 200, per visitor guides. Olympic Green station on metro line 8 is close by.
