A quiet historic street in Xuhui District in the west of the former French Concession, once called Route Ferguson, and named one of China's National Historic and Cultural Streets in 2011. It is only 1.17 km long but lined with 37 protected historic buildings in styles from Spanish and French to Art Deco, shaded by tall plane trees that form a green canopy in summer and a golden one in autumn. Its best-known building is the Wukang Mansion, or Normandie Apartments, at the junction, shaped like a ship's prow, where visitors love to take photos before strolling among small cafés and stylish shops in the old houses. Wandering is free; autumn, when the plane leaves turn, or weekday mornings before the crowds are best. Some houses are private homes, so respect the residents' privacy.
