A Buddhist temple on West Nanjing Road whose golden roofs stand out among the skyscrapers. It was first founded in 247 in the Wu kingdom of the Three Kingdoms period, beside Suzhou Creek, and moved to its present site in 1216 under the Song; in English it was once known as the Bubbling Well Temple. Rebuilt in 1983 and enlarged since, it gained a new pagoda in 2010, and its golden roofs and stone courtyards in the middle of the business district make one of Shanghai's starkest contrasts of old and new; visitors are asked to keep quiet and respect worshippers. Tickets cost CNY 50 including incense, and it is open from 7.30 am to 5 pm, with free entry on the 1st and 15th of each lunar month, per visitor guides. Jing'an Temple metro station is at its gate.
