A botanical garden on the hills of Xiamen Island, also known as Wanshi Botanical Garden, founded in 1960 and spreading over 493 hectares with more than nine thousand plant species; it is one of the city's best-known sights and holds China's top tourism rating. It is divided into sixteen sections, among them the succulent garden, the largest display of succulents in China, a cactus garden, a rainforest area where mist is released at set times, palm, bamboo and camellia gardens and a broad lawn of towering araucaria trees, with views from the hills over the city and the sea. Tickets cost CNY 30, from 6.30 am to 6 pm, with carts inside for an extra fare, per visitor guides; the paths climb up and down, so wear comfortable shoes.
