The Arctic Cathedral is Tromsø's globally iconic building: successive white concrete triangles (1965) evoking icebergs or a traditional Sámi tent depending on interpretation — a bold modern design that became Northern Norway's most photographed structure, standing on the fjord's east bank directly facing the historic centre, the two linked by Tromsø's long red bridge. Its massive coloured east glass window (The Return of Christ) ranks among Northern Europe's largest stained-glass works — igniting with colour when pierced by summer's midnight sun or winter's northern lights from outside, a scene worth timing. Summer hosts famous Midnight concerts (midnight in full daylight this far north) — winter hosts aurora-accompanied concerts when the lights appear directly above its triangular roof: counted among the most spiritually beautiful Norwegian winter images.
