The mosque in the park of the Petronas Towers, a few steps from Suria KLCC, known as the KLCC mosque. It was built between 1997 and 1998 as part of the city centre project, and its name, As-Syakirin, means the grateful. Its design blends traditional and modern Islamic architecture, with a broad dome, a minaret, geometric ornament and Arabic calligraphy, and it looks out over the park's lawns and trees, a calm oasis among the towers of finance and shopping. It was enlarged in 2009 to hold about twelve thousand worshippers. It is the nearest mosque for visitors to the Petronas Towers and the malls around them, so many travellers come here for Friday and daily prayers. It welcomes visitors outside prayer times in modest dress. Walk to it through KLCC Park from Suria KLCC or KLCC station; it is a restful stop between shopping trips.
