Moderate. The distance is reasonable but the ground is rocky and uneven with climbs and descents, and some stretches run close to the edge. Fine for regular walkers; not for small children or anyone afraid of heights.
Easiest is to drive up to a car park near Hohenbaden Castle and walk from there. Or walk up from the town through the forest in about an hour.
A clear morning in spring or autumn. Avoid going after rain, when the rock is slippery, and avoid misty days โ the view is the point.

The Battert is a natural rock wall on the hills above Baden-Baden, near the old Hohenbaden Castle. The rocks are tall and sheer, looking out over the valley and the Black Forest. The place is known for two things: a walking path that runs along the top of the rocks with wide views, and its standing as one of the oldest rock-climbing areas in Germany. On fine days you will see climbers on the walls. The clifftop path usually starts near Hohenbaden Castle, loops above the rocks and returns. The distance is moderate but the ground is uneven, with climbs, descents and stretches close to the edge. Walking shoes are necessary. The area is a nature reserve, and some paths may close during bird nesting seasons. It is free and open, and best on a clear morning.
