The Francisco Brennand Sculpture Park is an open-air museum on the reef that shelters Recife's port, opposite the Marco Zero square. It opened on 29 December 2000 to mark 500 years since the Portuguese reached Brazil and holds about 90 ceramic and bronze sculptures by Francisco Brennand, spread along some 500 metres of the reef and led by the 32-metre Crystal Tower. Small boats cross from a pier below Marco Zero in about five minutes, for around R$5 each way, and you can also drive there through Brasília Formosa. After three years of restoration the park reopened in March 2024 with a new pier, toilets, benches and lighting. From the reef you look back across the water to Marco Zero and the old quarter.
