The Paço do Frevo is a museum and cultural centre devoted to frevo, Recife's fast popular music and dance, danced at carnival with small coloured umbrellas. It opened on 9 February 2014 in the old building of the British Western Telegraph Company, built in a late English neoclassical style and listed as a national monument. Its rooms tell the story of frevo from its beginnings in the streets of Recife, with costumes, the banners of its clubs and recordings, and its newest permanent exhibition, Frevo Vivo, opened in May 2025. It has a school of dance and music, and holds performances and workshops for visitors. It stands on a square in the heart of Recife Antigo, near Marco Zero, so the two pair easily. Entry is free on Tuesdays.
