Three full hours from Prague squeezes the single day — staying overturns it: day coaches leave by five returning lanes to locals, the castle lit over the river, morning the Vltava's mist before first arrivals. One night is a near-consensus counsel.
A centuries' custom: the Bear Moat housed bears since 1707, emblematic of the Rosenberg crest — inhabited until recently. Presence is intermittent today under posted care — look from the bridge, and promise children nothing firm.

Czechia's second-largest castle after Prague's — above a town of mere thousands: a complex of forty buildings and five courtyards climbing a rock over the Vltava's bend, assembled by the Rosenberg, Eggenberg and Schwarzenberg houses through five layered centuries — Gothic, then painted Renaissance, then full Baroque. Its interior tours are distinct treasures: Renaissance halls and Baroque apartments (Route I), the historic Schwarzenberg suites — and the summit the 1766 Baroque theatre: one of five in the world surviving with original scene machinery and curtains still working. The painted tower, its cylinder ringed in colour, is the town's emblem: a separate climb, its view over the red-tiled sea curving with the river the most famous Czech sight after Prague. The Cloak Bridge, arched high over the moat, joins castle to upper Baroque garden with its fountain and revolving summer theatre — and below, the town is UNESCO whole: one day suffices it, and shortchanges it.
