A large performing arts venue in the Jiangbeizui business district, on the tip where the Jialing River meets the Yangtze, next to the Chongqing Science and Technology Museum. It was built in 2005–2009, 64 m tall, to designs by the German architect Meinhard von Gerkan of gmp, who likened its shape to a sailing ship. With more than a hundred thousand square metres of floor space, it holds two main halls seating 2,764 people between them, and its stepped glass façades glow at night, looking across the water to Chaotianmen. The building can be seen free from outside at any time, best from the opposite riverbanks after sunset, while shows are ticketed one by one.
