The Collegiate Church is the oldest important building in Baden-Baden, standing on the highest point of the old town directly above the hot springs. The building mixes several eras: medieval foundations, fifteenth-century Gothic sections, and later baroque alterations. Its domed tower appears in most pictures of the old town. Its most important feature is the tombs: the rulers of Baden were buried here across centuries, and there are detailed stone grave slabs and monuments, some from the fourteenth century. This collection of funerary sculpture is among the most significant in the region. There is also a large stone crucifix from the end of the fifteenth century, regarded as one of the outstanding carved works in southern Germany. Entry is free and the visit is short.

For twenty minutes, yes โ it is free and in the middle of the old town, and the tombs are the real value. But it is a relatively small church, so do not expect a cathedral.
The Roman bath ruins are directly below, the Friedrichsbad is close, and the Trinkhalle and Lichtentaler Allee are minutes away. The town is small and everything walks.
