The Friedrichsbad is Baden-Baden's most famous bath, opened in 1877 in a grand, palace-like building. It stands over the remains of ancient Roman baths, because hot water has risen from the ground here for two thousand years. Inside are domes, marble and mosaic — among the finest interiors in the town. One very important point before booking: the bath is entered completely without clothing, and this is a fixed rule with no exception. On most days of the week the rooms are mixed between men and women. There are certain separated days, but they are few and they change. If that does not suit you, do not book here — go to the neighbouring Caracalla Therme instead, which requires a swimming costume in all its main pools.
