A giant mirror bowl amid the Museumpark — the world's first fully open art depot: when the venerable Boijmans museum closed for long restoration, Rotterdam built its treasures the unprecedented: a mirrored vessel (2021) whose entire storage you enter — 154,000 artworks hung on mesh racks as stored, not staged. The experience inverts museology: drawers you open, glass cages stacking Bruegel beside chair design, restorers working behind their glass before you, 'behind the scenes' tours into the depths — art as industry, care and decisions, not white walls. Its roof is a freely climbed birch forest with restaurant — and the bowl itself mirrors city and park in the concave that became new Rotterdam's icon: MVRDV architecture at peak play.
