1,664 curved mirror panels clad the bowl, reflecting the city in its bend โ Rotterdam's obligatory selfie from every approach angle, dusk firing it gold. MVRDV (the Markthal's makers too) designed 'a treasury guarding itself by beauty' โ succeeding to postcard dominance.

A giant mirror bowl amid the Museumpark โ the world's first fully open art depot: when the venerable Boijmans museum closed for long restoration, Rotterdam built its treasures the unprecedented: a mirrored vessel (2021) whose entire storage you enter โ 154,000 artworks hung on mesh racks as stored, not staged. The experience inverts museology: drawers you open, glass cages stacking Bruegel beside chair design, restorers working behind their glass before you, 'behind the scenes' tours into the depths โ art as industry, care and decisions, not white walls. Its roof is a freely climbed birch forest with restaurant โ and the bowl itself mirrors city and park in the concave that became new Rotterdam's icon: MVRDV architecture at peak play.
