Lovrjenac is the Red Keep for most of it (Blackwater, the court scenes) โ the town King's Landing in its lanes: the Jesuit stairs the famous shame walk, Pile Gate and Minฤeta (Qarth's House of the Undying) besides. Series tours are a whole local industry โ the real scene sufficing all but the devoted.

Lovrjenac is Dubrovnik's Gibraltar: a triangular fort on a thirty-seven-metre rock outside the western walls โ raised by the republic in three legendary months (the 11th century, as told) to beat Venice to the strategic stone, and over its gate the deathless line: Liberty is not sold for all the gold in the world. Its engineering is a lesson in cunning: the sea walls twelve metres of rock โ the wall facing the city sixty centimetres only: a treacherous commander could be demolished by the town's own guns in a volley โ architecture trusting no one, its garrison included. From its upper court the finest angle of the whole walled city over the sea (the Red Keep angle, to those who know) โ and in summer a Shakespeare stage under stars: Hamlet here a festival tradition of half a century. The ticket sits inside the walls ticket itself โ its inevitable one-hour sequel.
