No. It was built in 1971 in medieval style inside the original wall. The wall and gate really are old; the houses within the courtyard are modern. Know that before you go, so you do not expect an ancient quarter.
The goods are handmade and generally well made, but prices are clearly higher because it is purely a tourist spot. For a quick gift it is convenient; for better value, the shops in the old town centre cost less.
Half an hour covers walking round the shops, plus another if you eat there. It is on the route from the station into the old town, so pass through it rather than making a special trip.

The Handwerkerhof is a cluster of small timber-framed houses set inside the city wall directly behind the Frauentor gate. It was created in 1971 to resemble a medieval Nuremberg street, and holds workshops and shops selling handmade goods: leather, glass, ceramics, dolls and jewellery. It is not an original historic quarter but a reconstruction aimed at visitors, which makes it touristy and its prices higher than elsewhere. Even so it is pleasant and good-looking, with small restaurants serving Nuremberg's famous small sausages, and being the first thing arrivals from the station meet, it works as a quick way to begin a visit.
