Innsbruck's Dom is complete Tyrolean baroque behind a quiet twin-towered face: a white-gold interior under illusion-depth dome frescoes (the Asam brothers, 1720s), and above its altar the city's treasure: Cranach's Maria Hilf icon (1530), among the German world's most famous and most copied Madonnas. Its bell dome carries Tyrol's heaviest bells โ the great Mary's Saturday-evening peal a sound event shaking the square. Steps from the Roof and Hofburg โ its twenty minutes fall into every walk by force, and its being free settles it.
