Costumes and role play at child height.
The Junges Schloss is a children's museum inside the Old Castle in central Stuttgart, part of the Württemberg State Museum. The idea is that the whole exhibition is designed by a child's logic rather than a museum's: everything can be touched, operated and tried, at a height suited to under-tens. The exhibitions are thematic and change roughly every two years, having covered subjects such as medieval life, animals and scientific discovery — each built from scratch with interactive stations, costumes children put on and role-play games. That means the visit differs completely depending on when you come. The setting in the Old Castle itself is striking: a Renaissance building with an arcaded inner courtyard, and the oldest structure standing in central Stuttgart. Parents go in with the children, and the visit suits ages four to ten specifically — older children will find it simple.

They are in the same building but the audiences are entirely different: the state museum is a traditional historical display in cases for adults, while the Junges Schloss is an interactive space designed for children alone. Tickets are separate, and a family can do both in one day — though young children will rarely tolerate the historical museum after an hour of play.
