Schlossplatz is wide and modern in feel, with lawns and fountains; Schillerplatz is small, old and enclosed by historic buildings. They adjoin, and seeing both gives you the whole picture of central Stuttgart.
Yes — it holds the Landesmuseum Württemberg, on a separate ticket. The arcaded inner courtyard, though, can be entered and walked through for free, and it is one of the loveliest things here.
Twenty minutes for the square and the courtyard. Combine it with neighbouring Schlossplatz and the Staatsgalerie for a half-day walk through the centre.

Schillerplatz is Stuttgart's oldest and prettiest square. It adjoins Schlossplatz but feels entirely different: small and enclosed by historic buildings rather than open space. At its centre stands a statue of the German poet Friedrich Schiller, the region's most famous son. Around it are the Altes Schloss with its round towers and inner courtyard, the old collegiate church, and a former grain store. A flower market runs here on certain mornings, and the Christmas market fills it in December. The square is free and always open.
