The working spas are its neighbours: the historic public Alžbětiny Lázně (Lázně V) books mineral baths directly — and the great spa hotels (Pupp, Imperial and peers) mostly open treatment wings to non-guests. The living tradition is fully available — just no longer in this particular palace.

The bathing palace built for an emperor: Lázně I (1895), its French-Renaissance front by the very architects of Monte Carlo's casino (Fellner and Helmer, masters of Europe's theatres) — opulence designed to suit Franz Joseph himself: the Emperor's gilded timber suite still its heart. Decades of neglect, then a millions-deep restoration returned it whole in 2023: you roam the mosaic Zander hall, the royal suites' baths, antique therapy machines (electric peat tubs! — medical marvels of 1900) — and its iron-and-glass dome is now a suspended concert hall with orchestral seasons. Visiting today is historical spectacle, not bathing — but the building alone explains why Karlovy Vary was 'Europe's salon': emperors truly bathed where you walk.
