An Ottoman mosque on the east bank of the Neretva near the Old Bridge, built in 1618 by Koski Mehmed Pasha, a high-ranking Ottoman official. A single dome covers the prayer hall, and inside are stained-glass windows and a decorated mihrab and minbar. The mosque and its minaret were damaged during the war in the 1990s, then restored and reopened in 2001. Its courtyard has an ablution fountain (šadrvan), old Ottoman tombstones and a terrace over the river. Its best-known feature is the minaret, about 30 metres tall, which visitors climb by a narrow, steep spiral stair to a balcony overlooking the Old Bridge, the old town, the emerald Neretva and the stone-roofed houses, often called the best spot for photographing Mostar. The rear terrace of the courtyard gives another close view of the bridge. It opens daily from 9:00 to 16:00 from October to April and until 20:00 from April to October, according to Mostar Pass. Visitors pay one fee for the mosque and a higher one that includes the minaret, about 10 to 15 KM per visitor guides. Modest dress is advisable, and the minaret is not for the claustrophobic.
