Mostar's old bazaar, a cobbled lane along the east bank of the Neretva up to the Old Bridge, named Kujundžiluk after the goldsmiths (kujundžije) who once made and sold their work here. Low stone shops with stone-slab roofs line both sides, selling hammered copperware, paintings and engravings of the Old Bridge, jewellery and pieces decorated with pomegranates, the symbol of Herzegovina, as well as carpets, souvenirs and restaurants overlooking the river. The lane is part of the Old Bridge area that UNESCO inscribed on the World Heritage List in July 2005, and it is the way most visitors reach the bridge. It is paved with polished river cobbles, which get slippery, especially after rain. Walking it is free. It gets crowded at midday with tour groups, so early morning and evening are calmer. It is worth asking prices before buying, and bargaining is accepted in many shops, per visitor guides.
