The League of Prizren Complex is a museum complex and heritage site in the heart of the old town, between the Lumbardh River, the Marash quarter and the slopes of the fortress. Here, on 10 June 1878, Albanian notables met to found the League of Prizren to defend the rights of the Albanian nation, after the treaties of San Stefano and Berlin assigned areas inhabited by Albanians to other states; the League was suppressed in April 1881. The complex was part of the külliye of Gazi Mehmed Pasha, built in 1537, and today holds the League building, the museum, a library and reading room, an art gallery, the madrasa, the Gazi Mehmed Pasha Mosque, a türbe and houses. Its houses, restored in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, show touches of European Baroque mixed with Neoclassicism. The museum tells the story of the League and its place in Albanian history, and the site is a quiet square by the river between the mosque and the old houses. Check the museum's opening hours before you go.
