The Sinan Pasha Mosque overlooks the main street of Prizren, its dome and minaret dominating the old town's skyline below the fortress. It was built in 1615 by Sofi Sinan Pasha, a native of Prizren who had served as beylerbey and kaymakam in Bosnia; he should not be confused with the grand vizier Sinan Pasha, who built the mosque in Kaçanik. The mosque is roughly square, about 14 by 14 metres, under a single large dome, with a half-dome over the mihrab and its stalactite hood. Its walls are 1.65 metres thick, and the minaret, capped by a lead-covered cone, rises 43.5 metres. Inside, 19th-century paintings, mostly floral patterns and verses of the Qur'an, cover the walls and dome, and the minbar is painted with flowers too. It stands a few steps from the Stone Bridge and Shadërvan square, so it is the starting point for any walk through the old town, and the view of it from the fortress in the evening is one of Prizren's finest. It is an active mosque that welcomes visitors outside prayer times: dress modestly, women cover their hair, and shoes come off at the door.
