Finland's oldest amusement park and its best loved: Linnanmäki on a hill north of the centre since 1950, run by a children's welfare charity so that all its profits go to them — and forty rides from the wooden roller coaster Vuoristorata of 1951, which still carries a human brakeman standing on the train, to modern towers, suspended coasters and a haunted house. Entry to the grounds is free, so people come to stroll, climb the old water tower for its view and eat at the stalls; riders pay by day wristband or single ride tickets — and the small rides for children under 120 cm are entirely free. The season runs from late April to October, and October's Carnival of Light illuminates the whole park. The SEA LIFE aquarium next door takes a separate ticket.
