The Memorial of Indigenous Culture is a cultural centre in Campo Grande, capital of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the Marçal de Souza village, described as Brazil's only urban Indigenous village, where Indigenous people, most of them Terena, live within the city itself. The building is made of treated bamboo under a roof of bacuri palm thatch, covering 340 square metres in all, an architectural piece that blends traditional building with the modern city. Its ground floor of 280 square metres is used to display and sell Indigenous crafts, while the mezzanine holds craft workshops and storage. Visitors find pottery, baskets, jewellery and other crafts of the state's Indigenous peoples, which they can buy directly from the makers. The building is accessible for people with disabilities. A visit is a chance to learn about the presence of Indigenous peoples in the life of the state today.
