The Bioparque Pantanal in Campo Grande is described as the largest freshwater aquarium in the world: a 19,000-square-metre complex whose building was designed by the architect Ruy Ohtake, beside the Parque das Nações Indígenas. Its tanks show the fish of the Pantanal wetland and its rivers. Building work began in 2011 and was meant to take 900 days, but it only opened on 28 March 2022, almost eleven years later. Entry is free, but every visit has to be booked in advance on the official booking site; new dates open each Monday at 8:00 local time, and some same-day places are released too. It opens Tuesday to Saturday in two sessions, mornings from 8:30 and afternoons from 13:30.
