The National Naval Museum in Tigre, on the Paseo Victorica riverfront, belongs to the Argentine Navy and gathers the country's maritime and seafaring history. It dates back to the late nineteenth century, when the Centro Naval, founded by officers in 1882, began receiving gifts of ship models and maritime objects, until they needed a museum of their own. Its long white building has broad, high-ceilinged halls showing detailed models of ships from many eras, navigation instruments, charts and marine paintings, and real boats, best known among them the sailing boat Lehg II of the sailor Vito Dumas, who sailed it alone around the world through the stormy southern seas in 1942-1943. Larger pieces stand outdoors in the garden. There is a small entry fee, and hours differ between weekdays and weekends. It pairs easily with the Tigre Art Museum and a delta boat trip.
