The Expeditionary Museum in Curitiba tells the story of Brazil's part in World War II, when the Brazilian Expeditionary Force was sent to fight in Italy. It was born straight after the war, when veterans from Paraná launched a fund-raising campaign to build a headquarters of their own, founding the «Paraná Expeditionary Legion» on 20 November 1946. With parties, raffles and donations they built the «Casa do Expedicionário», opened on 15 November 1951 to a design by the engineer Euro Brandão, providing medical and legal help for veterans and their families and hosting social and cultural events, with a small hotel for veterans visiting from the interior and a room for a small museum. As its welfare role faded over time, the whole building became a museum. The museum shows uniforms, weapons, equipment, documents and photographs of Brazilian soldiers in Italy. Entry is free; it usually opens Tuesday to Sunday in morning and afternoon sessions, so check times.
