Curitiba's Railway Museum occupies the city's old railway station, opened in 1885 on the famous Curitiba–Paranaguá line and in use until 1972, when the new combined bus and rail station opened. Its collection of about 600 railway pieces includes a locomotive from the early 20th century, clocks, telephones, telegraphs and objects from inside the carriages, and it uses parts of the original station such as the ticket windows. It tells the story of building the Paranaguá–Curitiba line across the Serra do Mar mountains. The museum adjoins the Estação shopping centre, built inside the old station, and is described as the only museum in the country inside a shopping centre; there is also a theatre on site.
