The Museum of Broken Relationships is Zagreb's most famous cultural export: two artists' idea at their own parting (2006) — where do finished love's objects go? — become a world museum gathering pieces and their stories from every continent: each ordinary thing (a toaster, a doll, an axe!) captioned with its true story in its anonymous owner's words — the reading swinging between laughter and tears every second step. It won Europe's most daring museum (2011) and toured the world, a branch in Los Angeles — but the original sits in a small baroque palace in the Upper Town: five rooms and one intense reading hour resembling no other museum on earth. It is the adults' and teenagers' finest stop (small children bore, not from content) — its café and shop (the memory eraser) the wry close — and for the willing: the donation box for your own story at the exit feeds the forever-circulating collection.
