The Palace of the Congress is the seat of both chambers of Argentina's parliament, a massive classical building crowned by a green copper dome at the far end of Avenida de Mayo from Plaza de Mayo. It was designed by the Italian architect Vittorio Meano and completed by the Argentine Julio Dormal, built between 1898 and 1906, and is a national historic landmark. In front lies Plaza del Congreso, with fountains and a monument, and the Kilometre Zero stone from which distances on all of Argentina's national highways are measured. Inside are grand halls of marble and carved wood and the chambers of the Deputies and the Senate. Guided tours are free, Monday to Friday, in Spanish at 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00 and in English at 13:00 and 15:00, lasting about an hour to an hour and a half. Booking is required, and you must bring your passport ten minutes before your slot.
