The Parque da Cidade Dona Sarah Kubitschek is Brasília's great city park in Asa Sul, 420 hectares in all and described as the largest urban park in South America. It opened in 1978, with its plan by Lúcio Costa, the planner of Brasília, buildings by Oscar Niemeyer and Glauco Campello, and landscaping by Roberto Burle Marx. It has cycling, running and skating tracks, artificial lakes, the Nicolândia amusement park with a Ferris wheel and roller coaster, the Ana Lídia children's park, dozens of sports courts and an equestrian centre. Its old wave pool, closed since 1997, was being renovated, with reopening planned for the second half of 2026. The park became famous across Brazil through «Eduardo e Mônica», a song by the band Legião Urbana in which its two characters meet here. Entry is free.
