The Residence Park is a park and theatre in Belém that served from 1913 until the late 1980s as the official residence of the governors of Pará, then as the seat of the state culture department, before a renovation turned it into a cultural and tourist space. It was listed as state cultural heritage in 1982. A walkway inside leads to the Estação Gasômetro, the old iron structure of the Pará Gas Company, which since 1997 has held a 400-seat theatre, with an open-air amphitheatre beside it. On the square stands a railway carriage from the old Belém–Bragança line, which carried the governor on trips through the state. The park is home since 1962 to the Pará Orchid Society, with an orchid house of more than 400 species, along with a bandstand honouring a Pará poet, Portuguese stone paving, iron lamps, the early-20th-century mansion and an imposing iron gate topped by the state arms.
