Parque de España is a riverside park and cultural complex on the high bank of the Paraná in Rosario, close to the historic centre. It was partly designed by the Catalan urban planner Oriol Bohigas, with lawns, trees and footpaths along the edge of the bluff overlooking the river. Its cultural centre, run with Spanish cooperation, has a 500-seat theatre and three art galleries set inside five nineteenth-century railway tunnels dug into the bank and turned into exhibition halls. A monumental staircase climbs the bank from the lower level, with room for some five thousand people to sit for open-air performances, and the lawns above look out over the wide river and its islands. The park is free and open all day, while the cultural centre's exhibitions and shows vary. It links with the riverside walk toward the National Flag Memorial.
