Moinhos de Vento Park, «Windmills Park», known to Porto Alegre residents as Parcão, the Big Park, is a much-loved green space in the Moinhos de Vento district. Its name goes back to the 18th century, when the settler Antônio Martins Barbosa built a windmill on high ground here, at a time when wheat was one of the town's most important goods. The park has a replica Azorean-style windmill recalling that history and a pond with fish, turtles and ducks, along with football, tennis and volleyball courts, outdoor gym equipment, a playground and a small children's library. The park is free and makes a calm family outing.
