Parque Trianon, officially Parque Tenente Siqueira Campos, is a patch of original Atlantic forest in the heart of Avenida Paulista, directly opposite the MASP museum. It opened on 3 April 1892, a year after the avenue was laid out, designed by the French landscape designer Paul Villon, and the city bought it in 1911. Its popular name comes from the Trianon restaurant the Rosati brothers opened in 1916 in the «Belvedere» opposite, where MASP stands today; it was the meeting place of the city's elite and was named after the Trianon palace at Versailles. The Belvedere was demolished in 1951 to host São Paulo's first art biennial, and MASP was later built on the site. The official name dates from 1931, honouring a hero of the 1924 Copacabana Fort revolt. The park has shady paths beneath tall trees, sculptures, a playground and exercise equipment, and a short trail known as the «Faun» trail after a statue along it. It opens daily 6:00-18:00, entry is free, and it is the perfect green break before or after MASP.
