The home of the man who made Ljubljana: Jože Plečnik lived in this modest house in the Trnovo quarter from 1921 until his death in 1957, and everything was left as he left it — his desk with drawing tools, the monastic bedroom, the kitchen, the cylindrical tower he added himself, and the winter garden with plaster models of his projects: bridges, market, National Library and churches never built. Guided tours only in small groups, the guides telling the life of an architect who lived like a monk for his work: no wife, barely any electricity in his room, thousands of drawings. The adjoining exhibition explains Ljubljana as he drew it — half the city today the fruit of his UNESCO-listed designs. Ten minutes' walk south of the old town along the river, beside his Franciscan church with its famous bridge.
