The central tower of Christ — set to make it the world's tallest church — was slated for Gaudí's 2026 centenary, with the final sculpted façade running years beyond. Dates move, but today's visitor sees it near-complete inside and out for the first time in its history.
With budget and time, yes — a lift up, a narrow spiral down, city and sea below. But it is a supplement, not the essence: choosing between tower tickets and longer in the nave, choose the nave.
Ninety minutes for the essentials. The first morning slot is calmest; after four combines relative quiet with the west glass on fire. Sunday morning is mass for worshippers. The surroundings are always thronged — allow time for arrival and security.

The Sagrada Família is the world's most famous unfinished building — Antoni Gaudí's masterwork, begun in 1883, to which he gave his last forty years knowing it would outlive his generation. Construction has run for nearly a century and a half on tickets and donations alone, and completion is, for the first time in history, actually near. Outside, a forest of towers and façades carved with entire stories; but the true shock is an interior like no church on earth: columns branching like forest trees, light shifting through stained glass from cool blue in the east to fire in the west — Gaudí designed a forest to pray in, every detail drawn from nature's geometry. This is the most visited monument in all Spain, and its timed tickets sell out days ahead — booking on the official site is not advice but a condition. The tower ascent costs more and the view is fine, but the essence is below: give the interior its full hour, following the light.
