A museum in the Tilanqiao historic area of Hongkou, inside the former Ohel Moshe synagogue, telling the story of some twenty thousand Jewish refugees from Europe who found shelter in Shanghai in the 1930s and 1940s, when the city was one of the few places that took them in without a visa. It shows documents, photographs, films and personal belongings from the refugees' daily life in the district, which had had a Jewish community since the late 19th century, and the surrounding lanes and houses from that period still stand. Tickets cost CNY 20, and it is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, last entry 4 pm, closed on Mondays, with free tours in Chinese at 10 am and 2 pm, per visitor guides.
