A 28-hectare zoo on the edge of the Upper Seletar Reservoir in Singapore's forested central catchment, opened in 1973 and known for its «open zoo» concept, where natural barriers and moats rather than cages separate visitors from animals. It keeps some 315 species, several of them endangered, in zones that recreate their habitats from rainforest to African savanna and Australia, linked by shady paths among dense trees. It is one of five parks in the Mandai reserve, with the Night Safari, River Wonders, Bird Paradise and Rainforest Wild, which can be combined on joint tickets, and it has daily shows and children's play areas. Tickets are S$49 for adults and S$34 for children for non-residents, per the official Mandai site. Allow at least half a day and arrive in the morning, when the animals are active and it's cooler.
No cages.
