The Teatro del Libertador General San Martín, formerly the Teatro Rivera Indarte, is Córdoba's main theatre and its hall for concerts, opera and ballet, home to the province's resident music, singing and dance companies. It was proposed in 1887 as the city's official theatre and is now counted among the country's best for acoustics. Its horseshoe hall rises in tiers of boxes seating about 1,077, and an elegant foyer. The building was restored in 2019 ahead of the Eighth International Congress of the Spanish Language held in Córdoba. Ticketed performances run through the season, and building tours are held at times. Its facade is close to the Jesuit quarter and Parque Sarmiento.
